"रास्ता पूछो तो कोई दिशा नहीं बताता, टोला बताता है।"
Malinagar is one village and its own gram panchayat, but nobody lives in "Malinagar". Everyone lives in a tola: a hamlet with its own chowk, its own pokhar, its own Holika fire and its own way of saying the village's name. This page is the list, with the five every child can point to and seventeen waiting for you to name.
Gaon ek nazar mein
From the 2011 Census, the last full count. The real number today is higher at Chhath and lower the rest of the year.
Malinagar is its own gram panchayat with an elected mukhiya, and has a post office, a bank branch, an anganwadi and a health sub-centre in the village. Nearest villages: Saidpur and Sahuri to the west, Bakhtiarpur and Hajpurwa to the south-east, Madanpur to the east, Nankar to the north-west, Pusa Deopur across the river to the south-west.
Dishayen
The five tolas everyone uses as compass points.
Poori soochi
Five are filled in from the village blog. The dashed cards are the ones we have never managed to count in one sitting. Send the names, the direction and one line about each, and they go in.
The middle of the village: the chowk, the bus point and the way to every other tola. Directions in Malinagar are given from here.
The tola nearest the Budhi Gandak and the ghat; the Chhath procession passes through it. The name says the houses were pucca before the rest.
Also written Dhruvgama on the old blog. The eastern tola, on the way to Madanpur.
The 'big village' tola on the north road toward Nankar and Sembhu Ram Tok.
The western tola, toward Saidpur and Sahuri, and the Pusa–Kalyanpur road.

Har tola mein
The crossing where the tola meets: the tea stall, the barber, the Holika fire in Phagun and the Saraswati pandal in Magh.
The pond: for the cattle, the Bat Savitri banyan, the Sama Chakeva clay and the Durga visarjan when the river is too far.
The mango orchard the tola sleeps in during Jeth, and where the Teej jhula is hung.
The tola's own shrine: a Brahm Baba, a Dih Baba or a Sokha under a tree, where the first diya goes before the family's own door.
The threshing ground shared by the tola's farmers, busiest in Baisakh and Aghan.
The shared tube-well and pumpset, and the argument about whose turn it is for water.
नाम, दिशा, और एक लाइन: वहाँ कौन रहता है, किस चीज़ के लिए जाना जाता है।
सत्रह खाली खाने आपके इंतज़ार में हैं।
